Tile works
Tile working is historically the fifth most basic way of decorating buildings. Iran (Persia) has been one of the pioneers in the tile working art-industry throughout history. The oldest glazed bricks in Iran (Persia) have been discovered in the Choghazenbil Temple in Susa. They date back more than 3200 years ago. (pic 1-pic 2)
With the advancement of architecture and the use of glazed bricks as the basis for the design of the walls, the glazed bricks entered a new phase, and the manufacturers began to thin the bricks, which they called tiles. (pic 3-pic 4)
Since one of the most important centers of Iran (Persia) in the production of brick and tile has been Kashan, so the pioneers of this art-industry took the name of this city to help address this decorative element and named it Kashani or Qashani. (pic 5)
After the advent of Islam, this style of art became more prevalent in the decoration of buildings and one of the prominent features of Islamic art. (pic 6)
The tile working (Qashani) could create mystical concepts in atmosphere, so the architectures have learnt how to use it in the Mosques and tombs decorations. (pic 7)
This is the why and most important reason for the advancement of the tile art-industry in Iran (Persia) Nowadays the masters of this tile working are mainly in the cities of Isfahan, Yazd, Kashan, Tabriz and Mashhad where valuable works of this art-industry can be seen. (pic 8)
