Enameling (Meena) is art with over 5,000 years of history. Many experts believe that this art has toured from Iran (Persia) to Byzantium and then to other parts of Europe. Enameling can be done in different ways, but the most common technique in Iran (Persia) is the technique of painting on metals such as gold, silver, and copper by using enamel paints. Nowadays, this art is mostly done onto copper, and its main center is Isfahan city in Iran (Persia).

Meena in Persian means sky. The artists who do enameling, work with the colors and designs on dishes to convey an abstract concept of the sky. To this end, the artists first draw a pattern on copper and create prominent motifs and then, in a few steps, the white glaze is coated on the surface of the dishes and stabilized at a high temperature in the furnace. Afterward, the artists draw various motifs inspired by Iranian and Islamic symbols on the surface of the dishes and, finally, put them in the furnace to stabilize the paints at high temperatures. (pic 3-pic 4)
