Wooden inlaid and wood engraving

Among the Iranian handicrafts, wood engraving and wood inlaid have shown an artistic pair of Iranian art beauties. Wood engraving means carving on wood and creating some wooden sculptures. This artistic technique is done in three ways: engraving, embossing, and sculpturing. (pic 1-pic 2)

But in wooden inlaid, we face some arrangement of pieces of wood on the surface that leads to the creation of an artwork. In other words, the wooden mosaic is a kind of wood painting, but here, instead of using the synthetic color, texture, and natural color of woods give life to the images. For this purpose, the design first copies onto the work surface, and then the around of the designed pattern is cut. (pic 3-pic 4-pic 5)

Then narrow pieces of different colors of the wood are appropriately replaced on the surface. The woods used in wood engraving and wood inlaid are of different species and include more than 60 to 70 different trees. Artists based on their knowledge about the hardness and colors of woods, use them depending on the specialties and dimensions of their works. (pic 6-pic 7)
