Pottery
Pottery is one of the oldest human inventions, originating before the Neolithic period. In Iran, pottery dated back more than 10000 years ago. The oldest pottery wheel and pottery kiln in the world have been found in Susa, Persia (Iran). Also, the oldest painted earthenware has discovered in that area. (pic 1)
Today pottery is more common in other parts of Iran. Among them: Gonabad, Laljin, Hamedan, Meybod Yazd, Isfahan, Zenuz Azerbaijan, Kalporgan Sistan and Baluchestan, Jouybar Mazandaran and Siahkal Gilan. Pottery is the process of forming vessels and other objects with clay and other ceramic materials, which are fired at high temperatures to give them a hard, durable form. (pic 2)
A clay body can be also decorated or painted before or after firing. (pic 3 to 6)
